Amur State Medical Academy

In 1952, on June 23rd, the USSR Council of Ministers decreed the establishment of Blagoveshchensk State Medical Institute (BSMI) in Blagoveshchensk. This included plans to enroll 200 students yearly and construct a hostel (finished in 1953) and educational building (completed in 1954). Despite challenges, the institute and hostel were built, equipped, and staffed. N.F. Shevchenko, Head of the Amur Public Health Division, oversaw recruitment of the first teachers and student admissions.
